ABOUT ME

My name is Þorvaldur Þór Þorvaldsson… or  Thorvaldur Thor Thorvaldsson… (pretty complicated…I know…) However, my nickname is Doddi, so please call me Doddi :)

I play the drums.

I was born and raised in Iceland. When I was five years old, I started playing the recorder and the piano. I was nine when I moved on to the drums, which have been my main instrument ever since.

I studied music in the United States. I got my B.M. from University of Miami, and my M.M. from New England Conservatory.

My drumming style has been described as having the power of John Bonham or Dave Grohl, but with the finesse of a seasoned jazz drummer… I hope that’s true!

It’s also been said that I’m influenced by Iceland’s extreme nature… which might be true… I do love nature…

Anyway,

I spent 2010 touring the world with Jonsi (of Sigur Rós). We played over 100 shows in 4 continents. Soooooo much fun!!!

This year, I’ve mainly been touring and recording with Helgi Jonsson and Tina Dico. I’ve also been taking it easy and relaxing, which I love too.

I’ve been very fortunate in my career. In addition to working with the people mentioned above, I’ve also  had the pleasure of performing and playing with lots of other amazing people, including Glen Hansard, Damien Rice, Joel Shearer, Jon Estes, Eythor Gunnarsson, Oskar Gudjonsson and many more.

When I’m not touring, I spend most of my time in Reykjavik, recording and performing with various artists, as well as working on my own compositions.

Also, I love to ski. Maybe I should do that more often… :)
